Even if the budgerigar is supposed to be released often enough for indoor walks, the size of the cage should be comfortable for the feathered pet:

• for one bird, a cage is enough, with a length of 40 cm., a width of 25 cm and a height of 30 cm;
• for a pair of birds, you will need a cage 60cm long, 30cm wide and 40cm high.

For two pairs of birds, respectively, you will need a cage, the dimensions of which are 60 cm in length, 50 cm in width and 60 cm in height.

Acceptable materials

Budgerigars are very fond of chewing not only their toys and accessories, but also the rods of the cage, therefore, special requirements are imposed on the materials used to make such a home structure. The most optimal material today is stainless high-quality steel, which does not rust or oxidize.

Short-lived cages made by unscrupulous manufacturers can be made from toxic cheap materials, including galvanized rods, which often flake off during use and become the main cause of budgerigar poisoning. Copper rods of the cage, which oxidize quickly enough under the influence of external factors, can also be dangerous for a feathered pet.

Filling the budgerigar cage

The cage contains perches and rings, as well as a feeder, drinker, all kinds of toys, a bath, and, if necessary, a nest box.

Feeders and drinkers

Hardwood perches are popular accessories sold by most pet stores. It is very important to correctly determine the diameter. The optimal dimensions are 15-20mm.
