How to properly insert a metal door. Self-installation of metal doors on brick, foam concrete and wood. Video - Installing the front door yourself

Do-it-yourself installation of a metal front door in a wooden house is a complex process that requires compliance with certain rules and nuances and is very relevant for owners of private real estate. Since the material used for the construction of the building is special, it requires proper handling and consideration of some subtleties.

Features of wooden houses

At first glance, it seems that doing it yourself is not difficult, especially if it is carried out in a wooden house. In practice, everything is far from the case: you need to take into account various nuances related to the characteristics of the material:

  • shrinkage. The lower tiers of the building box are subjected to heavy loads in the first five years after construction, which can lead to shrinkage and distortion of the size of window and door openings.
  • Dynamism. During operation, wood is exposed to environmental factors. Temperature fluctuations and high humidity can cause a change in the position of the log house.
  • fasteners. Installing a metal front door with your own hands in a log house negatively affects wood, unlike concrete or blocks. When installing bolts and anchors, a certain angle must be observed.
  • Strength. The boards located next to the metal door are significantly weakened after installation, which can be used by thieves and get into the house bypassing the door itself.

Benefits of a steel front door

Entrance doors made of metal have some advantages over similar structures made of other materials:

  • Safety. High-quality steel protects against penetration and burglary.
  • Strength. Resistance to mechanical influences.
  • Thermal insulation. Preservation of heat in the house without the use of additional materials.
  • Fire resistance. It inhibits the spread of fire and smoke, which is especially important for buildings built from wood.
  • Moisture resistant.
  • Long service life.
  • Wide range of. You can choose any door model.

Installing a metal door with your own hands is the best option not only for a wooden building, but also for an apartment building.

Required Tools

For installation work, special tools are required, especially if they are carried out without the involvement of construction teams.

Do-it-yourself installation of a metal door in must be carried out in such a way that the canvas opens outward in accordance with the standards fire safety. In addition, the technological features of the material from which the building was built are also taken into account.

Do-it-yourself metal front door installation in the house requires the following tools:

  • Small scrap.
  • Building level.
  • Perforator.
  • Nail puller.
  • Chainsaw and hacksaw if the building is wooden.
  • Chisel.
  • Self-tapping screws, steel bars or anchor bolts.
  • Construction foam.

If there are no doors in the delivery set, you will have to purchase them yourself.

Stages of installation of a steel door

All work begins with the removal of the old canvas, if any, in the house. Do-it-yourself installation of a metal front door step by step is as follows:

  • Removed the old canvas.
  • The doorway is being prepared.
  • A new metal door is being installed.

Dismantling the old canvas

In wooden buildings, the removal of the front door is carried out as follows:

  1. If previously fastened on collapsible hinges, then it is hooked from below with a crowbar and removed from the hinges. In the case of non-separable fasteners, unscrew the screws with a screwdriver or screwdriver.
  2. The wooden door frame is dismantled very simply - first all the fasteners are removed, then the side racks are torn off and sawn. The top and bottom parts can then be easily removed.
  3. The metal box is sawn with a grinder along with the anchors with which it is attached in the opening.
  4. The vacated opening is cleaned of dust, dirt, residues of building foam and other materials.

Do-it-yourself installation of a metal front door: instructions

When carried out correctly preparatory work must exceed the dimensions of the box by several centimeters. This is necessary so that the box can be leveled.

The metal structure is fixed in two ways:

  • With mounting plates.
  • Through the holes in the profile of the box.

Installation of the box and canvas

For metal doors, the role of the canvas is performed by a steel frame. Before installing it in the opening, the joints are carefully sealed by attaching a heater - for example, mineral wool. Many door models have a pre-insulated frame, which facilitates installation and does not require additional steps.

Since metal doors are very heavy structures, they must be installed with an assistant. In a wooden building, the strength of the frame must be greater than usual to withstand the load, so it is advisable to choose welded models in which the thickness of the metal sheet is at least 2 mm.

The door frame is leveled and fixed with 150x10 mm bolts, the gaps are foamed. After the foam has dried, installation work continues.

Do-it-yourself installation of a metal front door ends with hanging the canvas. in most cases, either hidden or external loops are used for this, which are attached to both the canvas and the loot. The first option is more preferable, since it is almost impossible to hack such a design.

The best way to place the door is on four hinges, so that the pressure is evenly distributed. The lower bolt is placed further than the upper one, while the central ones are at an equal distance from the hinges. Platbands close the joints in the wall. A small space is left without fail in case of canvas displacement.

A high-quality installation of a metal front door with your own hands can be done only if you have the necessary tools. You should not proceed with the installation of the structure, if wooden house did not go through the shrinkage process.

Mistakes made during installation

From the point of view of technology, the process of installing an entrance door is not difficult, but it must be done carefully, carefully and carefully, since the quality and duration of operation of the entire structure depends on it. The most common mistakes are:

  • Distortion of the door frame. This can be caused by incorrect alignment of the structure with respect to the horizontal and vertical planes.
  • The uneven installation of the door itself. Depends on how thoroughly it was cleaned workplace. The most difficult thing is to install a metal front door with your own hands, photos of the process can clearly show this in panel houses. The reason is that when drilling holes for anchor bolts, reinforced concrete reinforcement can lead all fasteners to the side. Metal rods will help to avoid such a mistake - they shift the drilling point deep into the wall or floor.

The specifics of installing a steel door in a wooden building

Houses built from a log house shrink over time. On average, it lasts from six months to five years, and the difference in height can be from 2 to 5 centimeters. For this reason, doors in a wooden house are installed using a separate technology. Thanks to it, you can avoid jamming the door and warping the block itself, which will help to avoid heat loss in the cold season.

It is quite difficult to work with openings in a wooden house, and you need to do this much more carefully than in a conventional panel high-rise building. Experts strongly advise against driving anchor bolts 150 mm long into the beams. The installation of a metal door itself is carried out no earlier than six months from the moment the walls of the house were erected and the final assembly of the roof. This time period is observed in order for shrinkage to occur. For the first year after completion of construction, the building shows maximum shrinkage in all technical specifications, however, the final parameters may vary depending on the moisture content of the wood used in construction.

When installing a metal door with your own hands, it is advisable to follow some rules:

  • In the end wall of the finished opening, vertical grooves are cut in the bars, into which the tow is driven. Sliding bars are installed in such holes. The number of grooves may vary depending on the fixing points.
  • A special casing is placed in the doorway, which is attached to the bars with self-tapping screws. On the horizontal bars, the gaps should not exceed 7 cm, on the racks - 2 cm. This is done so that after a few years the shrinkage of the entire log house of a wooden house does not jam the front door.

In order to avoid the effect of shrinkage of the building on the door itself and its subsequent deformation, before direct installation in a wooden house, an additional box is mounted, which is called It is intended to dampen wall vibrations.

It is advisable to choose door frames in wooden buildings that are more massive than in panel or brick houses. In addition, during the selection, the lower strength of wood is taken into account and the load on the structure is redistributed by increasing its attachment points.

A metal door should be installed by a team of professionals, which has the necessary tools and equipment in its arsenal, and also skillfully owns all these devices. Our company carries out a range of works related to the delivery and installation of Guardian doors, as well as warranty and post-warranty maintenance of door blocks. You can always refuse our services and install a metal door yourself or by your team.

The cost of our services:

  • Standard installation with delivery in Moscow and up to 10 km from MKAD in total 4 500 rub. ;
  • Delivery without services for the installation and lifting of the door unit to the floor in Moscow and up to 10 km. From MKAD - 1 200 rub., over 10 km from MKAD - 40 rub. /km. (for each additional km from MKAD);

Standard installation (Basic installation) cost 4 500 rubles includes:

  • Delivery in Moscow and within 10 km from the Moscow Ring Road;
  • Rise on the freight elevator;
  • Dismantling a wooden or MDF door;
  • Installation in a prepared doorway;
  • Foaming mounting gaps.

All additional work is evaluated according to .

All installation work will not take more than 2 hours, with basic installation and with additional works associated, for example, with the expansion of the opening, the transfer of the opening, the laying of the opening - 2-3 hours. When planning all work, in agreement with the customer, we take into account the "quiet hours" established by the government. We also ask you to discuss and coordinate with the neighbors in advance the installation work.

We can widen the opening

The design documentation for houses of some series (P-ZM, P-44, etc.) requires the installation of wooden doors with internal opening on concrete quarters - the so-called protruding parts of a concrete opening. We recommend cutting these quarters or cutting them off before installing a new metal door. These works will expand the existing opening and install a wider door, as is necessary to comply with fire regulations.

The cost of such work:

  • Cut quarters on three sides - 3 000 rub. ;
  • Cutting quarters with a threshold - 4 000 rub.

You can simply expand an existing opening for a door of the desired, oversized or stock door if you need an urgent installation. We can enlarge an existing opening on one or both sides for 1,000 rubles. per side. (the exact cost is estimated by the measuring engineer on site when studying the material of the walls)

You have plaster walls - no problem

In old houses, the wall material used was plaster. It is not intended for mounting steel doors, the door will simply fall out from the weight. We can carry out work to strengthen the doorway with metal corners, channels or pipes. An accurate estimate of the cost can be carried out on the spot when measuring.

Installation of entrance doors

We can produce slope finishes. After installing a metal front door, it is necessary to ennoble the inside of the opening.

We will help you with this:

  • With the help of plaster and putty, after these works you can paste wallpaper or paint. The cost of such work, together with materials - from 3 500 rub. ;
  • Finishing with platbands and additional timber. These works are carried out using platbands and trims made of the same material and color as the interior door trim you have chosen. The cost of works on installation of extensions - from 3 500 rub. , platbands - 3 000 rub. The prices for these works do not include the cost of materials.

Ways to install iron doors

Method B1

This method of installing iron doors is the most common. The door is installed from the outside of the opening, the door trim completely closes the gap between the door frame and the wall. The main advantage of this installation method is that the door has the ability to open up to 180 °, and the finishing of the slopes will only need to be done inside.

The door is attached to the wall with the help of "mounting ears" and pins that are driven into the wall. The use of "mounting ears" reduces the load on the frame.

Method A1

The most hack-resistant installation method. The door is installed approximately in the middle of the doorway using mounting plates. Of the minuses with this installation method, you will have to finish the finish on both sides, as well as the opening angle of the door is slightly more than 90 °.

The main limitation with this installation method is the minimum wall thickness without plaster - 210 mm.

Method A2

The door block is installed in the middle of the doorway and fastened with rods through special holes in the door frame. Metal rods are welded to the frame. This method is applicable in cases where the wall thickness is minimal and it is not possible to use mounting ears for installation. In other cases, it is better to use mounting ears for mounting.

Method B2

This method is applicable for thin walls, as well as for plaster openings with additional reinforcement using pipes, channels, etc.

Mixed installation method

This method of installing a metal door is used if one side of the door frame rests against the wall, while the other side leans against the edge of the doorway with the door frame trim. Various combinations of this installation method are possible. It all depends on the specific situation and the place where the door will be installed.

We have prepared an introductory video on the installation of Guardian metal doors

Installing steel doors will help protect your home from the entry of unauthorized persons, and also perfectly protect the room from drafts. With minimal construction skills and the necessary set of tools, you can independently carry out the installation of doors without involving professionals. Correctly made installation of metal entrance doors will contribute to the long service life of the product.

Before you start installing a new reliable iron door, you should dismantle the old one. First, it is removed from the hinges, and then the door frame is carefully removed. To do this, with the help of a nail puller, all the nails are pulled out and the frame is pulled out, applying a little force if necessary.

If the nails are firmly seated in the door frame, then it should be sawn in several places so that you can pry it off with a crowbar or a nail puller.

After removing the door frame, the doorway is thoroughly cleaned of plaster residues and protruding nails.

It should be remembered that, ideally, the opening should be slightly wider than the door block (15-25 millimeters). Therefore, you need to correctly measure the height and width.

What to do if the opening does not meet the ideal parameters:

  • A narrow opening should be expanded using a puncher or grinder with a circle marked "stone / concrete";
  • A very wide opening is laid with bricks in one row;
  • A slightly narrowed opening should be corrected with a cement-sand-based mortar with the addition of plasticizers.

At the end, the opening is carefully cleaned and trimmed. The easiest way to prepare an opening in a brick house.

How to install an entrance metal door to an apartment with your own hands

If there are special iron plates with holes on the sides of the door frame, then there will be no difficulties with installing the doors. But this installation method is possible if the door is adjacent to the wall on both sides, for example, in a narrow corridor.

Installation technology:

  1. The door block should be installed in the opening and leveled using tools: level and plumb. The result obtained must be secured with wedges and re-check the installation.
  2. Holes for fastenings are drilled in the wall, at least ten centimeters deep.
  3. We drive in metal rods, riveting their upper part.
  4. Then you should check if the door has warped during installation. To do this, it is opened and closed several times. You need to make sure that the locks and latches work well without jamming.
  5. The opening is sprayed with water and filled with mounting foam.
  6. When the foam has completely hardened, it is necessary to trim it. Usually this is done the next day, and until that moment it is strongly not recommended to use the door in order to avoid distortions.

According to fire safety requirements, the door must be torn off from the outside so that the residents of the apartment can freely leave the premises during a fire or smoke.

How are anchor bolts used to fasten metal doors

One of the most common fasteners used when installing a door frame are anchor bolts. They are made of durable grades of steel and covered with a special anti-corrosion coating. These fasteners are able to withstand heavy loads for a long time even in seismically unstable areas. Therefore, their use when installing doors is fully justified. What kind of fasteners are needed, they will tell you in a hardware store.

Mounting with anchor bolts:

  • The door is set according to the level in the opening and fixed with wooden struts;
  • Opposite the special holes in the door frame, cavities are drilled for anchors;
  • Anchors must be inserted into the holes and hammered in, and put on top of the plugs, painted to match the doors;
  • The opening is filled with construction foam.

If there are no holes for the anchor, then they should be drilled in the side posts (three pieces on each side). Reinforcement is driven into them and welded to the doors with a welding machine.

Proper installation of the front door in a private wooden house

In the first year after the construction of a wooden house, doors are usually not installed, since the material shrinks, and all openings become lower, sometimes even by 15 millimeters. In such conditions, any door can be deformed and stop working properly. After shrinkage of the log house, you can safely install doors and windows.

Tool required for work:

  • Level and plumb lines;
  • Manual or electric drill;
  • Chisel and hammer;
  • Roulette;
  • Hacksaw with a canvas for wood;
  • Planer (normal or electric).

First, the size of the log house is adjusted to fit the door frame. It is desirable that it becomes end-to-end, but a gap of no more than one centimeter is allowed. The excess wood is cut off with a planer, and its deficiency is compensated by stuffing wooden slats. If there was no opening initially, then it is easy to cut it out with a saw, having previously calculated the dimensions.

When installing the box, the door should be removed from it to make it easier to level. Long wood screws are screwed into special holes, which will securely fix the door frame. On top of them are installed special plugs.

Then the door is hung back and adjusted. It should not sag and warp.

The wide gaps between the box and the frame are filled with foam, and the narrow gaps are sealed with insulation (tow).

Beautiful platbands are stuffed from the street and the inside.

A few tips: how to strengthen the front metal door

Additional reinforcement of doors is necessary to protect them from breaking. No matter how impressive the door looks, there will always be professionals who can easily break it open or knock it out along with the jamb.

Ways to strengthen the entrance doors:

  • It would be advisable to install additional hinges or replace existing ones with reinforced ones, which are sold in specialized stores.
  • Locks should be installed at a considerable distance from each other, for example, one at the top of the door and the other in the middle.
  • The more the door frame fasteners are recessed into the wall, the less likely it will be knocked out.
  • The installation of special anti-removals will prevent it from being pushed out with a crowbar.
  • Along the perimeter of the doors, you can fix iron squares and drive their edges into the wall.
  • If you put a safe-door, then it will be almost impossible to crack it.

Sometimes door installers offer services to strengthen and protect them from breaking. In this case, you should listen to the advice of professionals.

Correct installation of metal entrance doors (video)

Entrance doors, both in a private house and in an apartment, are easy to install yourself, first carefully studying all the recommendations of the masters and correctly making the necessary measurements. Then they will not warp or sag even under heavy load, and you can save on the services of installers a large sum money. By following all the rules of installation and operation, it is possible to ensure that the doors will last at least 20-30 years without requiring adjustment and replacement.

Repair of an apartment or house is very often accompanied by a change from a wooden door to an iron one. Finished metal products are widely represented on the market. They have a very attractive and sometimes chic design that emphasizes the status of the owner.

They provide the inviolability of the home better than wooden ones, reduce heat loss, noise level and audibility of what is happening inside. Installation requires highly qualified, so this work is best left to the masters.

In extreme cases, the installation can be done by hand, but you will need a partner. To properly install the entrance iron door, you must follow the technology.

Advantages of metal doors

The decisive advantages that ensure the choice in favor of installing an iron front door include:

  • High strength and durability.
  • Variety of finishes.
  • Wide price range.
  • Ensuring high heat and sound insulation (and fire) properties when using special modern materials.
  • The possibility of using anti-burglary devices and constipation with multi-level protection.

How to choose a solid front door

A quality product is produced exclusively in the factory. A trip to the store should be accompanied by requests to sellers to provide certificates of conformity and other documents confirming the quality of the goods.

It will be correct to first search for reviews on the Internet about a particular manufacturer. Before purchase, the product should be carefully inspected for damage. The thickness of the metal sheathing should be from 2 mm or more. The gaps in the box should be even and covered with a soft seal. The built-in lock must have a locking system on all four sides. The pins should be thick enough and made of quality steel.

It is important to correctly assess the quality of the anti-corrosion and paintwork. The most durable is powder.

The most reliable iron door is made of stainless steel.

Selected according to pre-made measurements. For this, a regular tape measure is used. The distance between the walls and the height from the floor to the top of the doorway are measured. The depth of the opening is also measured. The product should be 2.5-3 cm narrower. In addition, the destruction of a part of the opening in the process of dismantling the old door is taken into account.

A quality door by itself does not provide complete security. Mounting is just as important. Properly done work does not allow robbers to knock the door out of the wall along with the box.

This is the first thing you need to pay attention to when installing your own hands. When buying, you should clarify whether the warranty will be preserved in this case. If not, do-it-yourself installation is better not to make or buy an entrance door elsewhere.

Installation must be carried out with all responsibility to the details, carefully and slowly. You need to stock up on the following tools and consumables:

  • Fomka.
  • Bulgarian.
  • Perforator.
  • Plumb.
  • Level.
  • Hammer.
  • Roulette.
  • Wedges made of wood.
  • Mounting foam.
  • Anchor fasteners.

To install the iron door yourself, you need to remove the old one. It is done like this:

  • The door is removed from the hinges. It opens, lifts with a crowbar and gently moves to the side. If the hinges are non-removable, they simply unscrew from the box.
  • The old box is dismantled. All nails and screws for fastening to the wall are removed. With a hacksaw, the sidewalls are sawn in half and squeezed with a crowbar from the walls. Lotka is taken out in parts. If it is metal, then the mounting pins are cut off with a grinder.

Do-it-yourself front door installation

It must be remembered that the installation of an iron front door alone is impossible. A good metal door has a decent weight and significant dimensions. Installation is done in one of two ways. The first one involves installation on the same level with the wall on metal plates, and the second one - in a certain recess with anchor bolts.

Side plate mounting is the most common. It is done like this:

  • The door is inserted into the opening and fixed with wooden wedges. The position is adjusted by checking the plumb and level.
  • Holes for fasteners are drilled in the wall, into which anchor fasteners or steel bars 10-15 cm long are hammered. Their ends are riveted with a hammer.
  • It is checked for opening and closing, tightness to the box and correct operation of the locking mechanism.
  • The opening is wetted with water and blown with mounting foam.

To protect the surface from foam, the visible parts are covered with masking tape before installation. It is not recommended to touch the box until the mounting foam has completely dried.

Mounting on anchor bolts is used if the use of plates is not possible. There are pre-drilled holes in the iron door frame. Anchors and plugs are supplied with the product.

A hole is drilled in the wall for the anchor and the box is attached to it. Of course, after checking for a plane with a plumb and level.

If there are no holes, then they are drilled with a drill with their own hands. Three on each side. The product is placed in the opening and fixed with wedges and nailed to the walls with rods through the holes made. After that, the ends of the rods are welded to the frame. It is recommended to cook through the openings in the box in order to avoid the appearance of sagging that impede the progress of the canvas.

After that, the cavities are blown with foam, the excess of which is immediately removed.

Features of installing an iron door in a wooden house

Do-it-yourself installation in a wooden house is complicated by a number of factors and has characteristic differences. The wooden house "breathes" - it is deformed in accordance with seasonal fluctuations in temperature and humidity. This leads to a change in the geometry of the canvas with all the ensuing consequences. Deformations can also occur in the event of a fire. In this regard, it is very important to make the right choice. The product should be of the highest quality possible, with the maximum rigid frame.

Do-it-yourself installation should provide free movement for opening and closing even with slight inclinations of the plane of the box and canvas. Under its own weight, it should not deform the frame. The box should have holes not only on the side, but also on the top and bottom.

The shape of the holes should be oblong to allow for small shifts to the sides.

On the video you can see the installation of a metal door:

It is necessary to put the iron door on thick and long screws with a wrench head. They must have a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the holes in the frame. The algorithm of work is as follows:

  • Holes are drilled in wooden walls with a diameter 5 mm smaller than the thread and a depth equal to the length of the self-tapping screw. Holes are also made at the top and bottom of the box.
  • The door is fixed in the opening (the gaps on the sides should be approximately 5 mm), screwed tightly to the upper jamb and hung out.
  • Then screws are screwed into the side and bottom holes so that there is 3 mm of space from the heads to the door. The box should, as it were, hang in space on incompletely screwed self-tapping screws and be able to move to the sides.

The final touch is blowing out the slots with mounting foam and fixing the decorative overlays - you're done.

Among all types of entrance doors, metal doors are considered the most authoritative and durable. Often they are installed by specialists of repair companies. However, this greatly increases the overall cost of the door, which is itself low. And therefore, the installation of the front door with their own hands is interesting to many people. The installation technology does not require special skills, however, for self-installation, you need to know some features of this process.

Preparation for installation work

Before proceeding with installation work and wondering how to install a metal front door, you first need to remove the old door. Dismantling should be carried out with the utmost care so that the opening does not collapse too much - the speed of the process will depend on this.

Door removal step by step

  • Removing the old canvas. Door hinges can be of two types - non-separable, which simply need to be unscrewed when starting work, and removable. In the second case, you need to slightly open the door and, having lifted the canvas with the help of an ordinary crowbar, fixed under its lower edge, remove it from the hinges.
  • Search for attachment points. To find the old mount, you need to remove all layers - wallpaper and plaster or putty. If the box is metal, then anchors or small pieces of reinforcement will be visible, which, at the junction, must be cut off with a grinder. Then the old box must be carefully squeezed out or knocked out so that it does not collapse.
  • Removing the wooden box. First you need to cut the side racks in half, and then just break them out of the opening with a crowbar or crowbar. After removing the sidewalls, it remains only to remove the lintel and threshold.

Preparing the opening for installation

After dismantling the old door, you need to prepare the box for installation. First you need to remove everything that can crumble - pieces of putty, pieces of brick and other debris. After carrying out such work, the opening can expand significantly. The resulting large voids should be filled with bricks, and small gaps should simply be covered with the remaining cement mortar. Perceptible protrusions that prevent future installation must be removed. To do this, you can use two types of tools - a hammer with a chisel or a grinder with a special cutting disc.

The scheme for preparing the door frame is as follows:

  • Checking the floor under the bottom of the door frame. Previously, old buildings were built with a wooden beam, which was placed under the door frame. If it has already become rotten and crumbled, it needs to be replaced.
  • Bar check. The same timber may look normal but be rotten in the middle. To know for sure about the suitability of a bar, its wood should be checked with an awl. To do this, stick the tip into the wood with a good effort, and shake it several times. Then take out. If the timber is suitable for further use, then the awl will be difficult and shallow to enter, and if the wood crumbles during rocking, then it must be thrown away.
  • Bar replacement. The timber cut to size must be treated with a special solution from decay, and then laid in place of the previous one. Then put brickwork on top, and fill the cracks with mortar.
  • Clarifying measurement of the opening. It is necessary to accurately measure the distance between the side jambs and between the upper and lower points of the doorway. The gaps between the overall unit and the wall should be at least 20-25 mm on each side. Subsequently, a situation may arise when the doorway will either have to be expanded, or, conversely, made narrower.

Important! The beam must be checked in different places.

Opening expansion

How to install the front door with your own hands when the opening turned out to be too narrow? The main task that is posed during the expansion process can be solved in two ways:

  • Cabin. This method is the most common due to financial considerations. You can expand the box by felling either on one side or on both. After the end of the process, the opening should be leveled and plastered.
  • Sharp. The advantage of this technique is that it can be applied to all types of solid walls, including load-bearing ones. The disadvantages are the financial costs and the availability of special equipment (grinder) with a diamond disc.

opening narrowing

In the process of downsizing, it is necessary to take into account the reliability and integrity of the future opening. To do this, it is better to tie an additional structure to the main wall with reinforcing bars. Appearance narrowed opening will be determined by one of three existing methods:

  • Brickwork. Laying work can be carried out in two ways - either in one or in several bricks. There will be no fundamental difference. The main thing is the right size. can be carried out within three days after the completion of the brick work, and the installation of the door leaf is allowed no earlier than 10-14 days.
  • Narrowing by concreting.
  • Installing a double door. This method is a great alternative to the previous two.

However, unlike them, the size of the opening can always be changed by opening and closing a small sash when the situation requires it, for example, when moving large items.

At the end of the above steps, the opening will be smooth and completely ready for installation of the door.

Installation of an iron door

The entrance door to the apartment is installed for several reasons:

  • as an excellent protection against robbers;
  • as good sound and heat insulation;
  • as an attractive decorative element.

The design of iron doors consists of a door frame, stiffeners (framework) and an outer surface. A special soundproof material is placed between the metal ribs, and the frame is sheathed with metal or other sheet material on top (the so-called budget option).

So that the sound when slamming is not very loud, a rubber seal is attached to the porch, which significantly reduces noise effects.

Door preparation

The entrance door can be ordered from the manufacturer with already embedded locks. This is the most acceptable option, because. installing additional elements requires some skill and, of course, additional time. Upon arrival of doors with locks, you only need to screw the handles to the designated place with self-tapping screws and be sure to check the progress of all locks and latches, which should work like clockwork. After a short test, you can proceed with the installation of the front metal door.

When installing a door that goes directly to the street, you can use polystyrene or building foam as an internal insulation. When using stone wool, it is necessary to close the door carefully - tightly, because wool has a hygroscopic property, which can lead to rusting of the door from the inside.

During installation, it is better to protect the paintwork with masking tape, which must be pasted over the entire perimeter. After installing the door slopes, the adhesive tape can be removed. For laying wires that must pass through the door, it is necessary to first install mortgages - a plastic pipe or a corrugated sleeve.

Door mounting options

Fixing the door to the box can be implemented based on three methods:

  • Retractable method. The essence of the process is to screw the door directly into the wall with anchor bolts, for which holes are pre-drilled, taking into account technological gaps. In the final, the ears of the bolts must be masked with plastic plugs of the appropriate color.
  • on mounting plates. Fastening is carried out on 3 or 4 plates protruding from the door block, in which there are holes for mortgages. With the correct placement of the door frame, a gap of 10–20 mm should remain on all sides. Then, steel guides are threaded into the provided holes, the second ends of which are either welded or riveted. As an alternative option for replacing guides, anchor bolts or reinforcement are used.
  • Combined. This method involves the parallel operation of the two methods described above simultaneously.

The sequence of installation of entrance doors

Do-it-yourself installation of an entrance metal door is a process that is divided into several parts:

  • Pre-fixing the door frame. First, the box must be freely placed in the opening, on special mounting pads, the height of which can reach 2 cm. Then, using a level or plumb line, you need to achieve strict alignment of the box in two planes - vertical and horizontal. Then it should be fixed with wooden bars (wedges), the thickness of which should slightly exceed the gaps between the metal frame and the wall. The number of such clamps is usually 3 pcs. on each side and 2 on top. After driving in the wedges, it is necessary to carefully check the evenness of the structure again with a building level.
  • Box fixing. First you need to drill holes in the wall through specially provided places of the metal frame. In order not to be mistaken in the depth of the hole being drilled, you can apply masking tape about 10-15 cm to the drill. This will be the necessary distance for a high-quality installation of fasteners using small pieces of reinforcement or anchors that match in diameter with the frame holes.
  • Preliminary inspection of the door leaf. With a removable canvas, you need to attach the door in order to make sure the quality of its progress. It should be smooth, without any effort. After testing the course, the door leaf can be removed again.
  • Fastener tightening. After checking the door, you can fix all the fasteners by tightening them finally.
  • Filling gaps. At this stage, special attention should be paid to polyurethane foam, which is used most often, and cement mortar. It is he who reliably fills all the voids, guaranteeing additional protection against burglary of the apartment. The foam can be easily cut off, thereby opening access to the metal mount.
  • Completion of work. First you need to hang the door, then carefully lubricate all the hinges and install decorative trims.

Important! During the installation of each of the anchors, it is necessary to ensure that the structure does not move. This should be constantly monitored by a plumb or building level.

Features of installing metal doors in walls made of different materials

Many do not know how to install an iron door in a wooden house. To do this, you need to know a few fundamental principles that can greatly simplify the workflow:

  • Wooden buildings shrink up to 8-12 cm. This period lasts 5 years, after which you don’t have to worry about the safety of the structure.
  • At installation work only external hinges and semi-rigid fastening can be used.

When installing a metal door with your own hands in a house made of foam block, gas silicate block, concrete polystyrene, due to the fragility of the material, additional reinforcement is required:

  • Special embedded detail;
  • Steel mechanism;
  • Wooden building.

For frame and panel buildings, wooden beams are used as auxiliary struts and racks.

When installing an iron door in a panel Khrushchev, it is advisable to take care of additional sound and heat insulation, since, unfortunately, they cannot boast of tightness.
